Fenugreek for Length Retention!
I love fenugreek. It’s one of my favorite natural plant ingredients for hair. When I was looking to formulate my first hair mask, I knew that I had to have fenugreek as one of the ingredients. Fenugreek, also known as methi, is a natural film former that has been used by women to strengthen the hair and slow down hair loss.
What do we know about Fenugreek?
Fenugreek seeds produce mucilage. This mucilage is similar to what is produced by plants like marshmallow root and slippery elm. This makes it an excellent natural detangler. The slippery mucilage makes it easy to release tangles and knots from the hair and reduces the force needed when trying to detangle hair. Less force = less damage to the hair!
Fenugreek contains protein. Proteins account for 23-26% of the composition of the seed. After using fenugreek most people will notice that the hair feels strengthened. This is a result of the film formed around the hair that adds support and protection to the hair cuticle. This is not the same as hydrolyzed proteins which are small and have the ability to penetrate into the hair cuticle.
As part of my healthy hair regime,I use the KurlStory fenugreek and avocado mask once a month. I add the mask to my regular conditioner to create a super moisturizing and strengthening treatment for my hair. This leaves it feeling super soft and strengthened.
